Text

The Kunstverein für Mecklenburg und Vorpommern in Schwerin warmly invites you to a furniture-making workshop with the architecture collective Frugal Bauen. Together, participants will build wooden chairs using simple joinery techniques. The focus is on collaborative making, experimenting, and learning with minimal resources and clear construction principles. The workshop is open to anyone who enjoys working with their hands – no prior experience is required.

Biography

Frugal Bauen is an architectural collective founded in 2022 by Lasse Fehmerling, Naima Mora, and Luis Neuber during the final year of their studies. The initiative aimed to contribute to the bachelor’s curriculum and to expand the offerings in sustainable building practices for fellow students. The studio focuses on natural building materials, regional techniques, and innovative concepts in sustainable architecture, including the critical examination of needs and the reuse of materials. Frugal Bauen’s projects seek to challenge conventional approaches to architectural planning and construction, emphasizing a highly localized and seasonal perspective. In addition to architectural designs, objects, and research projects, the collective is also active in teaching. Their methodology is practically oriented, applied both in independent projects and in collaboration with students. Particular emphasis is placed on the systematic study of materials, regional contexts, and social conditions, in order to develop well-founded, site-specific, and sustainable solutions.
