In her artistic practice, the American sculptor Nancy Lupo directs attention to our presence within everyday materials and spaces, exploring how collective fantasies, emotions, energies, and ideologies are inscribed in these (infra-)structures and objects. In relation to objects of desire, a web of promises can be embedded in a person, an object, an institution, a text, a norm, or an idea—or, as Nancy Lupo demonstrates, in synthetic beads, festive decorative papers, glassware, or heart-shaped garden ornaments.
