Internship (ongoing)
The Kunstverein offers students internships (ongoing) in the field of curatorial assistance and art mediation. Interns gain comprehensive insight into the work of an art institution as well as practical experience in the conception, planning and realisation of exhibitions, events and mediation formats. The opportunity to develop your own project is also provided.
Internships are available on both a full-time and part-time basis and, upon agreement, can also be carried out remotely in part. The duration is usually three months, with a minimum of two months. In the case of a mandatory internship, six months are also possible.
The internship covers the following areas of work:
– Curating and exhibition production
– Event organisation
– Administrative management
– Grant management and acquisition
– Art mediation and communication
– Press and public relations

Artistic and Managing Director
The Kunstverein für Mecklenburg und Vorpommern in Schwerin is seeking a new Artistic and Managing Director starting September 1, 2026.
Founded in 2002, the Kunstverein für Mecklenburg and Vorpommern in Schwerin was established to create a platform for contemporary art in the state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and beyond. Through changing solo and group exhibitions as well as a discursive programme of events and outreach activities, the Kunstverein presents international artistic positions. A particular focus lies on supporting and mediating emerging artists within current artistic and socio-political discourses.
The Artistic and Managing Director works closely with a small, dedicated team and is responsible for the conception and implementation of the exhibition programme as well as the public programme of events and outreach activities. In addition to curatorial work, the position includes the strategic development and public positioning of the Kunstverein towards a broad audience, the urban community, cultural policy actors, and an international professional audience. Furthermore, the Artistic and Managing Director holds executive responsibility for the financial management of the Kunstverein as well as for press and communications work. The further development of regional outreach activities and site-specific public programmes is particularly encouraged. Close coordination with the board is essential. Regular on-site presence is required; remote work is possible to a limited extent by arrangement.
Requirements:
– Excellent knowledge of contemporary art
– University degree in Curatorial Studies, Art History, Art or Cultural Studies, or a related field, preferably at Master’s level, or equivalent qualification
– Professional curatorial experience
– Interest in local cultural structures and in the role of the Kunstverein as a regional actor and its educational mission
– International networking within the art and cultural sector
– Experience in the conception, planning, and realisation of exhibitions and events
– Experience in fundraising and collaboration with funding bodies
– Experience in executive or managerial roles
– Strong organisational and communication skills
– Fluent in German
The position is commissioned on a freelance basis; the scope of employment will be agreed upon individually.
